Morgan Hickinbotham (b. 1989) is an Australian composer, producer and image maker who works within the mediums of sound, image and motion picture. Morgan’s compositions focus on creatively manipulating sound and image through exploring and expanding on minor imperfections or mistakes inherent in artistic experimentation. He creates experimental, minimalist compositions inspired by experimental composition processes and influenced by drone, noise, classical minimalism and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.
In 2012 Morgan graduated the Victoria College of the Arts with a Batchelor of Fine Arts, Photography. Since 2012 Morgan has composed and performed live for contemporary dance company James Batchelor and Collaborators for the works An Evening-length Performance (2021), Proscenium (2019), Hyperspace (2019), Redshift (2017), Deepspace (2017) and ISLAND (2014).
In early 2018 he was selected for the MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) Professional Development Course run by Dr Robin Fox and Byron Scullin, two of Australia’s premier experimental sound artists. In late 2018 Morgan was awarded an Australia Council Skills Development grant which supported residencies in Łódź, Poland, Kuopio, Finland, Bristol, England and Fujiyoshida, Japan.
In 2021 Morgan will be premiering new compositions for James Batchelor’s An Evening-length Performance and Tony Tran’s Brotherly across Europe.
Morgan is based in Berlin, Germany.
